More than three thousand servicemen were deployed to the testing grounds of the States members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) during the first command-staff exercise with the Collective Air Force of the CSTO “Air Bridge-2018”, which ended on October 13 in Yekaterinburg. Questions of planning the application and execution of tasks by the Collective Aviation Forces of the CSTO in the interests of the rapid deployment of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Forces in the Central Asian region were worked through.


“Within the framework of the CSTO, the Airborne-2018 command-staff exercise was held for the first time. A joint headquarters was created in Yekaterinburg, which included representatives from all the CSTO member states to jointly address the tasks of transporting troops to the training areas. The military transport aviation of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation was involved. More than three thousand servicemen, over 500 units of armaments and military equipment were delivered to the areas of the air exercise. The tasks that the exercise participants were faced with were fulfilled, the goals were achieved, ”said Lieutenant-General of Aviation Nurlan Ormanbetov, Deputy Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff.


"The main thing in this exercise was the organization of interaction between states in order to be able to carry out tasks for the transfer of military contingents to specified areas without difficulty and in a timely manner," said the deputy chief of the CSTO Joint Staff.


Lieutenant-General of Aviation Nurlan Ormanbetov also noted that in the future in the exercise "Air Bridge" will be increased attraction of military and army aviation, air defense assets.


"Each state that is part of the CSTO has its own laws that determine the rules of flights and troop movements. We are developing a number of interstate documents and agreements that will facilitate the unimpeded movement of military contingents belonging to the CSTO grouping," the deputy chief of the Joint Staff CSTO


The first command-staff exercise with the Collective Air Force of the CSTO "Air Bridge-2018" took place from October 1 to 13. Aviation maneuvers are one of the components of the main event of operational and combat training in the framework of the CSTO - operational-strategic exercises "Combat Brotherhood-2018".

The Collective Air Force of the CSTO is a coalition group in the composition of the forces and means of the CSTO collective security system, created to improve the speed of transportation and ensure the actions of the forces and means of the CSTO collective security system.


The decision of the Collective Security Council on the creation of the Collective Air Force of the CSTO was adopted on December 23, 2014.


The Collective Air Force of the CSTO consists of military formations of the military transport (transport) and special aviation of the armed forces, internal affairs bodies (police), national guard, security and special services, as well as bodies authorized in the field of prevention and liquidation of emergency situations .

The main tasks of the Collective Air Force of the CSTO:

  • transportation of personnel of formations of forces and means of the CSTO collective security system and cargoes to the areas of their use;

  • conducting search and rescue activities, evacuation of the wounded and sick;

  • other tasks determined by the Decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council.
