On 10-12 November, the National Defense University of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana hosted a training and methodological meeting with the heads of the CSTO basic training and research organizations and the VII meeting of the Working Group under the CSTO Defense Ministers Council on coordinating joint training of military personnel and scientific work.

The event was attended by heads of military education management bodies of defense agencies of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, basic training and research organizations, a group of officers of the CSTO Joint Staff headed by Lieutenant General Ruslan Shpekbayev, representatives of the CSTO Secretariat and invited persons.

The exceptional importance of joint training in the Organization's format was underlined in a video message to the participants of the event by Colonel General Andrei Serdyukov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff. He said, in particular: “Over the years of cooperation, guided by the goals and principles of the Organization and striving to ensure a high level of training of military personnel, the CSTO bodies have adopted more than 25 normative legal acts, which ensures the effective functioning of the established system.”

The Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff noted: “In order to increase the effectiveness of the educational process and improve research activities for the development of the CSTO's military component, a network of basic training and methodological and research organizations has been set up. Twelve military educational institutions have been given the status of basic training and methodological organizations. Eight specialized research organizations and military educational establishments have been given the status of basic research organizations for the scientific, theoretical and practical study of issues relating to the creation, improvement, training and use of forces and means. The Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is the leading basic training and research organization in the CSTO.

“The format of the meeting provides a unique opportunity to discuss topical issues of military training and scientific work within the Organization and to develop specific proposals in the course of joint work,” Colonel General Andrei Serdyukov said.

The Working Group meeting was chaired by Major General Igor Muravlyannikov, Head of the Military Education Department - Deputy Head of the Main Personnel Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

During the event, a thorough exchange of views took place on the experience of organizing the training of military personnel and specialists. Proposals for increasing cooperation between military educational establishments were discussed. The event participants prepared a number of proposals for improving the system of joint training of military personnel for the CSTO member states.

Head of the Department of Military Education and Science of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan Colonel Murat Olzhabaev thanked colleagues for their efforts in strengthening cooperation in the field of military education, training, retraining and advanced training of military scientific and pedagogical personnel.

In Astana, a visit to the Sagadat Nurmagambetov Military College was also organized for the participants of the event, where they were familiarized with the training and material base.
