28 April marks the Day of the CSTO Joint Staff. It should be recalled that on 28 April 2003, in Dushanbe, the Collective Security Council, guided by the need to establish a military staff body responsible for implementing the military component of the Collective Security Treaty, adopted the Decision “On the Establishment of the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.”

Acting Secretary General of the CSTO Valery Semerikov expressed his condolences to Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Yermekbayev due to the disaster of a military helicopter and the death of 13 people.   

"On behalf of the Secretariat and the Joint Headquarters of the Organization of the Collective Security Treaty and myself, I express deep condolences in connection with the crash of the MI-8 helicopter, which took place March 27 sg. In Zhalagash region of Kyzylordaoblast.

We took with deep sorrow the news of the tragic death of servicemen. We share with the families, relatives and friends of the victims the bitterness of irreparable loss that has befallen them, "the condolences say.
