On 25 July 2024, staff of the CSTO Secretariat met with graduates of Central Asian universities in the fields of “International relations” and “Regional studies” who are participating in the International School of Diplomacy and are in Moscow at the invitation of the Autonomous Nonprofit Organization ‘National Research Institute for the Development of Communications’ and the Centre for International Strategic Studies of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Allow me to thank the Russian presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the invitation to take part in the debate on the interaction between the United Nations and regional organizations - the CSTO, the CIS and the SCO.

I highly appreciate my participation in the meeting of the main body of the World Organization responsible for maintaining global peace and international security. I am convinced that today's debate will contribute to the development of new, additional mechanisms for United Nations cooperation with the CSTO, the CIS and the SCO - the leading regional organizations operating in the Eurasian security space.

Imangali Tasmagambetov, the Collective Security Treaty Organization Secretary General, told BELTA news agency correspondent whether the CSTO sought to become a counterweight to NATO, the situation in the East European region of collective security, the role of Belarus in the organization, and what initiative of the President of Belarus had become important and timely for the CSTO.

The CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas had a meeting with the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Yermekbayev in Nur-Sultan 09.03.2021

On March 9, this year, in Nur-Sultan, the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Stanislav Zas had a meeting with the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Lieutenant General Nurlan Yermekbayev.

In the course of the conversation, the CSTO Secretary General and the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan discussed the activities of joint operational and combat training planned in 2021, as well as the Plan for equipping the CSTO CRRF.

In the course of the meeting, the parties paid special attention to enhance the training of the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces and equipping them with modern weapons, military and special equipment, special means, taking into account the possible involvement of the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces in the UN peacekeeping operations through the "coordinating state", which is one of the CSTO member states. Thus, the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces includes a Russian medical detachment, which in the future is supposed to be made a combined unit, supplementing its composition with representatives (specialists) of the CSTO member states.

They also discussed the implementation of the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, expressed in the course of the December 2020 session of the CSTO CSC on the establishment within the framework of the Organization of a new institution - the Special Representative of the CSTO Secretary General for peacekeeping.

The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the CSTO Secretary General have discussed the issues included in the agenda of the upcoming April meeting of the CSTO Council of Defense Ministers and the trainings of the Collective Forces scheduled for the current year. In particular, on the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan, it is expected to conduct a joint training with the CSTO CRRF "Interaction-2021", a special training with reconnaissance assets “Poisk-2021" and trainings with the assets of the Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics units of the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces) "Echelon- 2021". On the territory of the Russian Federation, a training with the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces "Indestructible Brotherhood-2021" and an operational training with the Command of the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces of the Central Asian region will take place.

In the course of the meeting, the draft Plan for joint training of command and control bodies and formations of the assets of the CSTO collective security system for 2022 was being discussed.

After the meeting, Stanislav Zas made an entry in the Distinguished visitors’ book of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan, got acquainted with the Monument to soldiers killed in action and visited the National Military-Patriotic Center of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
