The CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov summed up the results of the Organization's work in 2024 and outlined priorities for 2025 23.01.2025

On January 23, 2025, the CSTO Joint Staff hosted a joint summing-up of the work of the CSTO Secretariat and Joint Staff in 2024, during which the CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov briefed on the CSTO's activities and achievements over the past period and set the main tasks for 2025.

During his speech, the CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov, in particular, noted:

"Dear participants of the meeting,

today the Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization together with the Joint Staff is summing up the results of the Organization's work in 2024 under Kazakhstan's Chairmanship. The year as a whole was not an easy one for the Organization, but we managed to implement all approved plans in accordance with the priorities of the Kazakh Chairmanship and to adopt a number of constructive decisions aimed at ensuring collective security.

It is important to note that the Collective Security Council, whose meeting was held in Astana on November 28 last year, praised Kazakhstan's chairmanship. Kazakhstan has traditionally demonstrated an interested and responsible approach to work in the CSTO format.

The Secretariat welcomes the outcome of the meeting of the Collective Security Council, for which preparations were under way throughout 2024. The key result of the meeting was that the Heads of the member states stated their commitment to the principles and objectives of the Organization and confirmed their intention to do everything necessary to support collective efforts to ensure regional security. A number of documents were adopted on specific areas of the CSTO's activities aimed at its improvement and, in general, at ensuring security in the Organization's area of responsibility.

Thus, a number of important issues were considered at the CSC meeting. Among the key results of the discussions we should note:

first, the Declaration of the CSTO Collective Security Council adopted by the Heads of State;

secondly, the Decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council “On the CSTO Special Interstate Policy for strengthening sections of the Tajik-Afghan Border”. Its implementation will begin in the current year, 2025. The Program includes specific measures aimed at ensuring the security of the southern part of the CSTO area of responsibility;

thirdly, the decision of the Collective Security Council on further strengthening of allied relations within the Collective Security Treaty Organization;

fourthly, the Statement of the Collective Security Council in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and the decision “On the Plan of measures to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945”;

Finally, documents were considered and signed concerning the equipping of components of the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces) with modern and advanced models of armaments and military equipment.

During the past year, the CSTO actively cooperated with international organizations such as the United Nations, the CIS and the SCO, and successfully implemented joint operational and combat training activities for components of the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces) on the territory of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, as well as practical activities in the format of special permanent operations. It took an active part in setting the agenda and discussing regional problems within the framework of the Second Minsk Conference on Eurasian Security. In general, we have made efforts to improve the information and analytical support for the Organization's work, with the aim, among other things, of raising awareness of the CSTO's activities.

At present, the Collective Security Treaty Organization is starting to implement the decisions adopted by the Collective Security Council and the agreements reached, as well as developing an action plan for the implementation of priority areas of activity during the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic".
