18.09.2024Main theses of the interview of the CSTO Secretary General to the publication “Allies. CSTO”:
-
The regular joint trainings of representatives of the armed forces, emergency services and law enforcement agencies of the CSTO member states are an essential element in strengthening the force component of the Organization and evidence of the readiness of our countries to stand together against current challenges and threats.
-
As you know, no representatives of Armenia took part in these events [CSTO trainings]. Nevertheless, we continue to regard Armenia as an equal partner in the Organization's format and are ready for dialogue with our colleagues from Yerevan on the whole range of topical issues.
-
Interaction with international partners remains one of the most significant areas of the CSTO's activities and takes place along several tracks. I should like to emphasize the United Nations, the SCO and the CIS, including their subdivisions responsible for countering terrorism, as the main structures.
-
There are partnership and observer institutions within the CSTO that provide for closer interaction with the Organization, up to and including participation in meetings of some of its statutory bodies.
-
On a global scale, there is an inevitable redistribution of resources and a shift in the centers of power, which is associated with the strengthening of a number of states claiming global influence. I believe that in time this will lead to the formation of a more equitable and adequate system of international relations.
-
Discussing the situation in Eurasia and the CSTO area of responsibility, it should be emphasized that it is changing rapidly. This forces the Organization, while remaining committed to its principles and priorities, to look several years ahead in order to be more resilient to the impact of external negative factors.
-
The CSTO is characterized by open and honest discussions of all topical issues without exception in the mode of constructive and “soft” alliance and decision-making strictly in accordance with the principle of consensus. We act in an exceptionally consolidated manner with regard to fundamental issues of mutual support and collective security.
