From July 7 to 9, second staff talks were held in the Russian Federation on the organization and conduct of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Forces (CRRF) command-and-staff exercise “Interaction-2026”, the special reconnaissance exercise “Poisk-2026”, and the logistics support exercise “Echelon-2026”.
In accordance with the 2026 Action Plan of the Coordinating Council of Heads of the Competent Authorities for Countering Illicit Drug Trafficking of the CSTO Member States, and as part of the Russian Federation's priorities during its 2026 CSTO Chairmanship, the sub-regional counter-narcotics operation “Kanal – Amber Coast” was conducted from June 29 to July 3, 2026. The operation was aimed at disrupting trafficking routes for narcotic drugs, their precursors and analogues, new psychoactive substances, and potent substances into the CSTO area of responsibility, neutralizing international transnational drug trafficking groups, dismantling clandestine drug production facilities, undermining the economic foundations of the drug trade, including the laundering of drug proceeds.
The 12th Southern Information Security Forum “Infoforum Sochi 2026” is taking place in Sochi, Russia, from June 30 to July 3. On July 1, the Forum's plenary session brought together representatives of federal and regional authorities, regulatory bodies, leading companies, and international organizations to discuss current challenges in the protection of critical infrastructure, the development of artificial intelligence, and international cooperation.
On June 30 – July 1, 2026, Saint Petersburg hosted a series of events chaired by Alexander Kurenkov, Minister of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters, with the participation of heads of the competent authorities of the CSTO member states responsible for emergency prevention and response.

The CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov gave an exclusive comment to the “RIA Novosti” news agency. He highly praised the Kyrgyz Republic's chairmanship of the Organization and noted the key aspects of joint work to ensure security in the region.
“It is important to note that the political leadership of the Kyrgyz Republic (the CSTO chair country – ed.) is well acquainted with the specifics and problems of the Central Asian region and is taking active steps to stabilize the situation there. Some of the tasks related to ensuring security are being worked out in neighboring Tajikistan during the joint trainings currently being held with the peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization “Indestructible Brotherhood-2025” and special trainings with the joint formation of radiation, chemical, and biological protection and medical support for the CSTO “Barrier-2025.” Given the difficult situation in this part of Eurasia, the readiness of collective forces and means to perform their earmarked tasks is becoming increasingly important and relevant," the CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov told “RIA Novosti”.
Imangali Tasmagambetov told “RIA Novosti” that Kyrgyzstan, as the chair country of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) for 2025, had fulfilled all of its plans.
“Kyrgyzstan has approached the implementation of its priorities as CSTO Chair with the utmost responsibility. I would like to note the high-quality and constructive interaction between the Kyrgyz side and the CSTO Secretariat, as well as their complete understanding and support for our initiatives and all the events planned for this year,” Imangali Tasmagambetov emphasized.
He noted that one of the priorities of Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship was to improve cooperation on preventing and combating the use of information technology for terrorist and extremist purposes. Successes in this area were noted during an international conference on cybersecurity organized by the Kyrgyz side at Lake Issyk-Kul and specially organized cyber exercises.
"Overall, all of the chair country's plans were fulfilled over the past year. Consequently, none of the priorities of the Kyrgyz Republic's chairmanship (in the CSTO) remained unfulfilled. The results of the chairmanship will be summarized at the meeting of the Collective Security Council, which will be held on November 27 in Bishkek. I believe that Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship will be highly appreciated by the heads of the CSTO member states," the Secretary General of the Organization emphasized.
