The training led by Colonel-General Alexander Lapin, commander of the troops of the Central Military District of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, will be attended by military contingents of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, the task force of the CSTO Joint Staff and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Police) unit. "Using the experience of the combat actions acquired in the Syrian Arab Republic, we are working out the issues of command and cooperation, and directions to increase the coordination of tactical activity of the created group in a rapidly changing environment, taking into account the studied nature of the actions of illegal armed groups," Alexander Lapin said during the opening of the training.
Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov, chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, speaking at the opening ceremony of the training, said: “The military-political situation in the CSTO responsibility zone remains tense. A negative influence on its development is exerted by the presence on the external borders of the collective security regions of unresolved armed conflicts, and by the high activity of extremist and terrorist groups in Central Asia."
He noted that one of the priorities of the CSTO activities in the current year is to carry out events to implement the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, and this is precisely the focus of the set of joint trainings and exercises with the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces). “The main tasks of the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces of the Central Asian region are to participate in repelling external military aggression and conducting joint counter-terrorism operations,” said Anatoly Sidorov.
For his part, Deputy Defense Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Abdulkhoshim Davron Gulomzoda also noted the difficult situation in the Central Asian region.
