The CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces (CPF) Commander's plan for a joint peacekeeping operation was heard today at the “Edelweiss” training range in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, the CSTO Deputy Secretary General Takhir Khairulloyev, officers of the training management staff, heads of contingents from the Republics of Belarus and Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Russia and the Republic of Tajikistan, and operational groups of the CSTO Joint Staff and the CSTO Secretariat took part in the event held at the training’s field headquarters. Colonel Almazbek Abdibaitov, Commander of the CSTO CPF, made the report. He reported in detail on the plan of action and the areas where the CSTO CPF's main efforts were to be concentrated.

The main efforts of the Peacekeeping Forces will be focused on establishing zones of separation (buffer zone, demilitarized zone), protecting important state and socially significant facilities, monitoring the implementation of the terms of the ceasefire and the ceasefire agreement, and ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian supplies.

According to the training concept, in accordance with a decision of the Collective Security Council, the CSTO CPF are to conduct a peacekeeping operation to maintain peace in an area of responsibility 24 kilometers deep and 168 kilometers wide.

In the buffer zone, the training participants need to set up 26 observation posts and 15 checkpoints, and take over 10 important government facilities under guard.

The concept outlined by the CSTO CPF Commander was approved by the training leadership. Its special feature is the involvement of land units, aviation and combat boats in the waters of Lake Issyk-Kul.

The military contingents of the CSTO CPF are preparing to fulfil their assigned tasks at the training ground. In the course of practical trainings, the Collective Peacekeeping Forces are practicing operations at a roadblock, tasks at a filtration center and a refugee camp, escorting convoys with humanitarian supplies, blockading a populated area, as well as freeing "hostages" from a hijacked sea vessel and providing assistance to the injured.

Under the general supervision of Colonel Artur Temirov, the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic, national contingents of the Peacekeeping Forces from the Republics of Belarus and Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Russia and the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as operational groups of the CSTO Joint Staff and the CSTO Secretariat, are taking part in the training. A total of about 1,500 servicemen and more than 200 units of military and special equipment are involved in the training.
