From July 7 to 9, second staff talks were held in the Russian Federation on the organization and conduct of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Forces (CRRF) command-and-staff exercise “Interaction-2026”, the special reconnaissance exercise “Poisk-2026”, and the logistics support exercise “Echelon-2026”.

In accordance with the 2026 Action Plan of the Coordinating Council of Heads of the Competent Authorities for Countering Illicit Drug Trafficking of the CSTO Member States, and as part of the Russian Federation's priorities during its 2026 CSTO Chairmanship, the sub-regional counter-narcotics operation “Kanal – Amber Coast” was conducted from June 29 to July 3, 2026. The operation was aimed at disrupting trafficking routes for narcotic drugs, their precursors and analogues, new psychoactive substances, and potent substances into the CSTO area of responsibility, neutralizing international transnational drug trafficking groups, dismantling clandestine drug production facilities, undermining the economic foundations of the drug trade, including the laundering of drug proceeds.

The 12th Southern Information Security Forum “Infoforum Sochi 2026” is taking place in Sochi, Russia, from June 30 to July 3. On July 1, the Forum's plenary session brought together representatives of federal and regional authorities, regulatory bodies, leading companies, and international organizations to discuss current challenges in the protection of critical infrastructure, the development of artificial intelligence, and international cooperation.

On 12-14 December, the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization held videoconference consultations of representatives of interested ministries and departments of CSTO member states on the organization of joint training activities for the management bodies and formations of the forces and means of the CSTO collective security system.

Representatives of the concerned ministries and departments from the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the CSTO Secretariat and the CSTO Joint Staff took part in the consultations chaired by Lieutenant General Hasan Kaloyev, First Deputy Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff.

During the consultations, the CSTO Joint Staff considered proposals by the CSTO Joint Staff on the organization of joint training for the governing bodies and formations of the forces and means of the CSTO's collective security system in 2024, discussed approaches to the holding of joint command-staff and special trainings with the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces) and the dates for the first and second staff talks.

Following consultations, agreements were reached, in particular, on the need to be guided in the preparation of joint (special) trainings in 2024 by the variant of the development of the military-political and military-strategic training situation developed by the CSTO Joint Staff and the Regulations on the procedure for the preparation and conduct of joint trainings approved by a decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council.

In 2024, the focus will be on the Central Asian Collective Security Region. Trainings with the CSTO CRRF are planned in the Kyrgyz Republic, in the Republic of Kazakhstan with the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces, and in the Republic of Tajikistan with the CAR CRDF.

The consultations also discussed and agreed on a draft plan for the joint training of the CSTO collective security system's command and control bodies and formations for 2025. A set of these measures is aimed at increasing the readiness of the CSTO's collective security forces and means to fulfil their earmarked tasks.
