The Federation Council opened the exhibition "900 days of the siege of Leningrad." The exposition has been organized by the Committee of Science, Education and Culture of The Russian Federation, by the appointment of the Valentina Matvienko, the Chairman of The Upper House of The Parliament.

- As we know, this year 2020 is the year of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Therefore, we decided to organize this exhibition, - the first Deputy Head of the Committee for Science, Education and Culture, Senator from the Leningrad Region Dmitry Vasilenko, said - The opening was held in a festive atmosphere. It was attended by Chairman of the Council of the Federation Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko and His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill. They examined the exhibits, in particular, household items, military uniforms and weapons of the time, which were donated to the Federation Council by three St. Petersburg museums — the State Memorial Museum of Defense and Siege of Leningrad, the People's Museum of Culture and Art of the Siege of Leningrad “But the muses were not silent ...” "At secondary school No. 235 named after D.D. Shostakovich, as well as the Museum of the History of the Russian Fleet and the St. Petersburg Naval Technical College named after Admiral D.N. Senyavin " Worthy sons of Fatherland." Also, recently declassified documents from the Central Archive of St. Petersburg and the Central State Archive of Literature and Art of St. Petersburg are presented here for the first time.

The exposition consists of five parts. These are “Culture of the besieged Leningrad”, “Schools of the besieged Leningrad”, “900 days of the siege of Leningrad”, “Defense of the Nevsky Bridge-head” and “To your act of bravery, Leningrad”. Here are collected testimonies of 900 terrible days from the life of the besieged city, which tell about the culture, education of the siege and the famous battles on the outskirts of the city. It is also worth adding that this exhibition opens a series of events that will be held in the Upper House of Parliament in the year of Memory and Glory.

Dmitry Vasilenko also added that during the event it was decided to continue the installation of commemorative plates on the Nevsky Bridge-head, where, according to archival data, more than 200 thousand soldiers were killed.

“We have been working there since 2006,” he said, “We installed addition illumination, put our territory in order.” Now we continue to install commemorative plates, as we continue to receive applications from the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. For example, among recent ones are applications from the Pskov, Kursk and Novosibirsk regions, the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. All this is done in order to preserve the memory of the Heroes - the fallen, the survivors and the victors.
