“Since the creation of the Organization, much has been done to improve its military component. A crisis response system has been created, components of the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces) have been formed, and joint operational and combat training events are held on a regular basis. The military-political situation in the region and the world as a whole remains complex. The crisis potential does not decrease. Therefore, in the interests of ensuring the readiness of the power component of the CSTO and the effective solution of anti-crisis tasks, this joint work must continue, ” said Mr. Shoigu.
He noted that "the development of cooperation within the framework of the CSTO is one of the unchanging Russian priorities."
The CSTO Secretary General received an invitation to the IX Moscow Security Conference in April. The CSTO Secretary General informed Mr. Shoigu on the implementation of coalition military development plans.
Four of the eight priorities that Russia has set for implementation during its chairmanship of the Collective Security Treaty Organization relate to the military sphere, and work on their implementation has already been organized, the CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas said on Monday at a meeting with the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shogu.
“2020 is the year of Russia's chairmanship in the CSTO. Priorities for this year, directions on which it is proposed to focus the main efforts are formed. We have already worked out a plan for implementing these priorities. It is large enough, conditionally divided in eight directions. By the way, of the eight areas that Russia has identified as priorities, four relate to the military sphere. The work has already been organized, ” said Mr. Zas.
He said that he would like to inform the Russian Minister of Defense about the progress of this work and discuss a number of current tasks. "The year began in Russia with a good start, ” said Mr. Zas, “ and we all will have to work a lot in different directions. But they are firmly convinced of one thing: that the ambitious tasks set by the president are feasible for the Russian Federation. ”
Russia, Mr. Zas stressed, will be able to solve all problems: both to strengthen its defense, and to strengthen the collective security of the CSTO member states.
“First of all, I would like to discuss these issues regarding collective security with you today,” said Mr. Zas, addressing Mr. Shoigu.
