The countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will be able to coordinate their actions in the international arena under a special document. Sergey Pospelov, executive secretary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, declared his readiness, TASS reports.
According to him, the draft document is already ready and will be sent to all parliaments of the participating countries. It was developed by the Permanent Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation and the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly (CSTO PA), Mr. Pospelov said at a meeting of the Committee on Defense and Security of the Federation Council.
The executive secretary recalled that earlier, at the suggestion of Olga Kovitidi, a member of the Committee for Defense and Security, and colleagues from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, it was entrusted to develop provisions for coordinating activities on the external venues of the countries participating in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
“Today such a document has been developed, its draft will be sent to all parliaments,” said Mr .Pospelov.
He expects the document to be adopted this year. Speaking about the need to develop a document, Mr. Pospelov recalled the last session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
“At the last session ... where resolutions were considered that didn’t reflect the real situation in Russia and other CSTO countries ... there was no single vote of the countries on these issues, although the opposite positions were expressed at the coordination meetings,” the secretary said.
Senator Kovitidi noted that it is necessary to organize as much as possible so that the CSTO countries have a consolidated position on a number of important international issues.
“I raised this issue of amending the charter of the CSTO so that we have an agreed position on international platforms on issues important to the Russian Federation,” the parliamentarian said.
The CSTO includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
