The event was attended by heads of integration structures in the post-Soviet space, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives of the embassies of CIS countries in Russia. Opening remarks were delivered by the moderator, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Grigory Karasin.
In his speech, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev spoke about the stages of the CIS evolution and its future prospects, as well as the establishment of mechanisms for cooperation across a broad range of issues — from politics and security to the economy, culture, and humanitarian ties.
Acting CSTO Deputy Secretary General S.I. Ordabayev informed participants about cooperation with the CIS and the SCO aimed at strengthening peace and security in the Eurasian space. Particular attention was paid to the positive outcomes of the visit of the CSTO Secretariat delegation to the OSCE headquarters.
The participants in the discussion noted that the Commonwealth has proven its viability and remains a unique and востребованная platform for continuous constructive interaction among CIS countries.
