On December 13, this year, in the CSTO Secretariat, the regular consultations of the heads of press services (information departments) of the foreign ministries of the CSTO member states on the subject: "On practical directions of interaction of press services of the MFA of the CSTO member states" were held.
Representatives of the MFA of the Republic of Armenia, the MFA of the Republic of Belarus, the MFA of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the MFA of the Kyrgyz Republic, the MFA of the Russian Federation, the MFA of the Republic of Tajikistan, the CSTO Secretariat and the CSTO Joint Staff took part in the consultations.
The consultations were opened by the CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas, who noted the critical importance of cooperation on the information track in the context of the rapid growth of conflict potential in the world, the activation of both new and traditional challenges and threats.
Stanislav Zas drew attention to the need to strengthen the analytical component of the CSTO in the media sphere. He also emphasized the importance of the CSTO Crisis Response Center in the activities of the Organization. "Its capabilities allow for safe and continuous communication with authorities and mass media of the member states, monitoring of events, prompt consideration and making decisions on topical issues," the CSTO Secretary General said.
In conclusion, Stanislav Zas stressed that the CSTO had a great potential to build up efforts in the information and media environment. "Rational use of this potential will mean a significant contribution to strengthening peace and security of our countries," he noted.
In the course of consultations, it was noted that there had been an increase in publications in some media and certain segments of the blogosphere distorting the essence, the CSTO work objectives and methods. Maria Zakharova, the Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke on the issue of practical measures to counter the dissemination of inaccurate information about the CSTO activities.
A representative of the CSTO Crisis Response Center briefed the participants of the consultations on the capabilities of the CRC to provide information support for the Organization's activities. The delegations expressed their support for expanding the use of the Center's potential, including in addressing new challenges and threats in the media sphere.
