28 April marks the Day of the CSTO Joint Staff. It should be recalled that on 28 April 2003, in Dushanbe, the Collective Security Council, guided by the need to establish a military staff body responsible for implementing the military component of the Collective Security Treaty, adopted the Decision “On the Establishment of the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.”
On 27 April 2026, within the framework of the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Contours of a New Architecture of Collective Security: Current Issues of Information and Analytical Partnership within the CSTO,” held at MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, a round table entitled “Eurasian Analytical Platform: New Approaches in a New Geopolitical Reality” took place. During the event, Head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the CSTO Secretariat Yuriy Shuvalov delivered a presentation on “The Eurasian Analytical Network: A New Cognitive Architecture of Collective Security.”
A joint training with the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces "Indestructible Brotherhood-2023" started in the Kyrgyz Republic
The opening ceremony of the active phase of the joint training "Indestructible Brotherhood-2023" with the Peacekeeping Forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) took place today at the “Edelweiss” training range in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Major General Ruslan Mukambetov, the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Kyrgyz Republic, said at the opening ceremony of the joint training: "Today we are embarking on the final stage of the “Combat Brotherhood-2023” operational-strategic training of the CSTO Collective Forces, which is planned taking into account the realities of the current global situation. We are facing important tasks to improve the military component of the Organization and build up its potential for the comprehensive development of the CSTO member states".
He also noted that the joint training "Indestructible Brotherhood - 2023" with the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces was primarily aimed at joint operational and combat training of the units of the Collective Peacekeeping Forces of the Organization’s member states. Thanks to peacekeeping trainings, the personnel of the armed forces of our brotherly states are improving their field training and acquiring the necessary practical experience in peacekeeping operations.
At the opening ceremony of the training, Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, said: "Possessing an effective tool for reconciling conflicting parties and restoring normal life is an important component of the CSTO collective security system. Today, the CSTO member states have more than 25 years of experience in peacekeeping in different parts of the world. In 2022, the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces were practically applied in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The result of the peacekeeping operation was highly appreciated by the leadership of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the CSTO member states. Further improving the composition of the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces and preparing them to carry out their earmarked tasks is the most important area of development of the Organization’s collective security system in the coming years".
The Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff also noted that the peculiarity of the forthcoming training was that the joint post-conflict settlement actions involve units of the armed forces, internal affairs bodies, police, internal troops and national guard troops, security and emergency response bodies of the CSTO member states, whose coordinated and coordinated actions determined the outcome of the training.
Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov said: "The training involves units of the glorious 8th Guards Motorized Rifle Regitsky of the Order of Lenin, Red Banner, Order of Suvorov Division named after I.V. Panfilov. The division was formed in 2011 in the year of the 70th anniversary of the glorious 8 rifle division, which in 1941 was formed by citizens of the Kyrgyz and Kazakh SSR and distinguished itself in the battles near Moscow; one of the first in the Red Army received the honorable name "Guards". The preservation of military traditions, honoring the memory of predecessors is the most vivid example of the fact that all of us, our peoples, together, not in words, but in deeds, have stood and are standing in a single combat formation".
The CSTO Deputy Secretary General Takhir Khairulloyev also took part in the opening ceremony of the active phase of the joint training.
The main objectives of the training are to improve the practical skills of officials of the CSTO Peacekeeping Units' management bodies and personnel and to enhance the coherence of military units and subunits in carrying out tasks during a peacekeeping operation in the Central Asian region of collective security.
In the course of the training, the tasks of post-conflict settlement in the crisis zone will be practiced in high altitude conditions, including the conduct of a peacekeeping operation using the forces and means of the CSTO's collective security system and the provision of humanitarian assistance.
The practical actions provide for the Collective Peacekeeping Forces, together with units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, to carry out training and combat tasks at checkpoints and casualty reception points, escorting convoys and cargoes, liberating populated areas, rescuing "hostages" and providing humanitarian assistance.
Under the overall leadership of Colonel Artur Temirov, the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic, national contingents of the peacekeeping forces from the Republics of Belarus, and Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Russia and the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as operational groups of the CSTO Joint Staff and the CSTO Secretariat, are taking part in the training.
