28 April marks the Day of the CSTO Joint Staff. It should be recalled that on 28 April 2003, in Dushanbe, the Collective Security Council, guided by the need to establish a military staff body responsible for implementing the military component of the Collective Security Treaty, adopted the Decision “On the Establishment of the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.”
On 27 April 2026, within the framework of the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Contours of a New Architecture of Collective Security: Current Issues of Information and Analytical Partnership within the CSTO,” held at MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, a round table entitled “Eurasian Analytical Platform: New Approaches in a New Geopolitical Reality” took place. During the event, Head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the CSTO Secretariat Yuriy Shuvalov delivered a presentation on “The Eurasian Analytical Network: A New Cognitive Architecture of Collective Security.”
The CSTO Collective Security Council will discuss current issues of international and regional security and the main results of the Organization's activity during the intersessional period on November 23 in Yerevan
On November 23 this year, in Yerevan, a session of the Collective Security Council (CSC) of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, will be held.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon are expected to participate in the event. The CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas will participate in the meeting.
The CSC members will discuss current international and regional security issues and the main results of the activity of the Collective Security Treaty Organization during the intersessional period. One of the most important issues will be the improvement of the CSTO crisis response system and discussion of joint measures to assist the Republic of Armenia.
The Declaration of the Collective Security Council is expected to be adopted during the CSC session.
With the Republic of Belarus taking over the presidency of the CSTO in 2022-2023, the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will present the country's priorities to be implemented next year.
The agenda of the CSC meeting includes a number of documents to be signed, which relate to equipping the Peacekeeping Forces with modern weapons, military and special equipment, joint formation of radiation, chemical and biological protection and medical support of the CSTO, as well as giving the complex of operational and preventive measures "Mercenary" the status of a regional anti-terrorist operation. The CSTO budget for 2023 will be reviewed.
The Collective Security Council will consider the issue of the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in connection with the upcoming rotation on January 1, 2023.
Prior to the start of the CSC, a joint meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defense Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils will be held, during which the military and political situation in the CSTO collective security regions and the agenda of the upcoming session of the CSC will be discussed.
A number of important political statements are planned to be adopted during the meeting of the CFM, the CMD and the CSSC, including a statement by the foreign ministers of the CSTO member states on strengthening the international and regional security architecture and arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation, as well as a statement by the secretaries of security council’s condemning attempts to glorify Nazism, neo-Nazism, extremism, chauvinism and all forms of xenophobia. There are plans to adopt a decision by the CSTO Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils on the composition of the Coordinating Council of the authorized bodies of the CSTO member states on biological security issues.
