On 6 February 2026, a meeting took place in Moscow between CSTO Secretary General Talatbek Masadykov and Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Chairman of the CSTO Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils (CSSC), Sergey Shoigu. The meeting was also attended by CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov and Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Alexey Shevtsov.
A wide range of issues related to countering challenges and threats to collective security was discussed.
The CSTO Secretary General expressed his appreciation to the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia. “During this very sensitive period, we will do everything in our power to achieve the objectives set,” Talatbek Masadykov said. The Secretary General informed the Chairman of the CSTO CSSC about the work of the Secretariat on implementing Russia’s priorities during its chairmanship of the Organization in 2026. He also thanked Sergey Shoigu for his assistance in the CSTO’s activities, including support for initiatives aimed at countering challenges and threats within the CSTO area of responsibility.
Sergey Shoigu drew attention to the need to enhance the effectiveness of the CSTO’s working bodies in the current international environment. “Under today’s conditions of heightened turbulence, active militarization of countries surrounding us continues. In this situation, much depends on how effective the work within the CSTO will be,” the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia noted.
Sergey Shoigu also wished Talatbek Masadykov, who assumed office on 1 January of this year, success in his position, noting that while the work is challenging, the Secretary General’s extensive experience in international affairs, including at the United Nations, will contribute to addressing the tasks facing the CSTO.
