28 April marks the Day of the CSTO Joint Staff. It should be recalled that on 28 April 2003, in Dushanbe, the Collective Security Council, guided by the need to establish a military staff body responsible for implementing the military component of the Collective Security Treaty, adopted the Decision “On the Establishment of the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.”

On 27 April 2026, within the framework of the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Contours of a New Architecture of Collective Security: Current Issues of Information and Analytical Partnership within the CSTO,” held at MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, a round table entitled “Eurasian Analytical Platform: New Approaches in a New Geopolitical Reality” took place. During the event, Head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the CSTO Secretariat Yuriy Shuvalov delivered a presentation on “The Eurasian Analytical Network: A New Cognitive Architecture of Collective Security.”

On 15 April 2026, a meeting was held in Bishkek between CSTO Secretary General Talatbek Masadykov and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov.

The parties held a detailed discussion on current issues of international policy in the context of strengthening security in the CSTO area of responsibility, emphasized the critical importance of establishing peace in the Middle East, and expressed hope for the successful course of negotiations between the delegations of Iran and the United States. The importance of Afghanistan’s development as a peaceful and stable state was noted, as well as the commitment of the official authorities in Kabul to counter existing challenges and threats on the country’s territory. In this regard, Talatbek Masadykov informed about the progress in implementing the CSTO Targeted Inter-State Program for strengthening the Tajik-Afghan border.

The CSTO Secretary General also spoke about the progress in implementing the Action Plan for the execution of decisions adopted at the November (2025) session of the CSTO Collective Security Council and the Organization’s priority areas of activity during Russia’s chairmanship, including preparations for upcoming meetings of the CSTO statutory bodies and for the series of large-scale joint exercises scheduled for the second half of the year.

Talatbek Masadykov also informed about the intensification of the CSTO’s analytical activities, including the International Scientific and Practical Conference entitled “Contours of a New Architecture of Collective Security: Current Issues of Information and Analytical Partnership within the CSTO,” scheduled to be held on 27 April in Moscow with the participation of leading experts from the Organization’s member states.

Sadyr Japarov put forward a number of proposals aimed at improving joint work and reaffirmed the readiness of the Kyrgyz side to comprehensively strengthen cooperation within the CSTO framework.
