The active phase of the joint exercise with the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces of the Central Asian Region (CRDF CAR) “Frontier-2026” has begun at the Koktal training range in the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the exercise, the participating forces are practicing the preparation and conduct of combat operations to destroy illegal armed formations that have invaded the territory of a CSTO member state.
On September 11, 2026, a round table entitled “Kazakhstan–Central Asia–Greater Eurasia: resilience and security amid new challenges” was held at the Center for Social Conservative Policy. The event was organized by the CSTO Secretariat jointly with the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ICCA RAS) and the Center for Social Conservative Policy (CSCP).
The event was attended by CSTO Secretary General Talatbek Masadykov, Director of the ICCA RAS Kirill Babaev, members of the CSTO Permanent Council and representatives of the academic and expert communities of the member states. The discussion was moderated by Yuri Shuvalov, Head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the CSTO Secretariat.
On September 4 this year, a round table entitled “CSTO–SCO: Security Space” was held as part of the business program of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. CSTO Secretariat representative Igor Panarin took part in the event.
The CSTO mission advance team continues to work in the Republic of Armenia

On 16 September this year, Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov, Head of the CSTO Joint Staff, met Lieutenant General Roman Golubitsky, Head of the Border Guard Department of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Armenia, as part of the visit of the CSTO mission advance team to the Republic of Armenia. The situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and measures to solve it were discussed in detail, "We received a vision of the situation and operational information about what is happening from our border guards, who are on duty on the border and are involved in the protection of certain sections of the Armenian state border," Anatoly Sidorov said after the working meeting.
On the same day, he met with Sergey Kopyrkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia. The diplomat said that Yerevan "attaches special importance to the CSTO Mission and expects the Collective Security Treaty Organization to play an important role in stabilizing the situation and taking steps to prevent further escalation.
On the eve, CSTO Chief of Staff Anatoli Sidorov had a working meeting with the Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan.
The advance group of CSTO mission arrived in the Republic of Armenia on September 15 in accordance with the decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council. The Mission is tasked to work out proposals on de-escalation of tension.
