During the “Conduct of combat operations” stage, two main training objectives are being practiced: the occupation by the national contingents of the CRDF CAR of the area of responsibility and the destruction of illegal armed formations that have invaded the territory of a CSTO member state.
The active phase of the joint exercise with the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces of the Central Asian Region (CRDF CAR) “Frontier-2026” has begun at the Koktal training range in the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the exercise, the participating forces are practicing the preparation and conduct of combat operations to destroy illegal armed formations that have invaded the territory of a CSTO member state.
On September 11, 2026, a round table entitled “Kazakhstan–Central Asia–Greater Eurasia: resilience and security amid new challenges” was held at the Center for Social Conservative Policy. The event was organized by the CSTO Secretariat jointly with the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ICCA RAS) and the Center for Social Conservative Policy (CSCP).
The event was attended by CSTO Secretary General Talatbek Masadykov, Director of the ICCA RAS Kirill Babaev, members of the CSTO Permanent Council and representatives of the academic and expert communities of the member states. The discussion was moderated by Yuri Shuvalov, Head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the CSTO Secretariat.
The CSTO Acting Secretary General Valery Semerikov attends the 82nd meeting of the Council of Commanders of the CIS Border Troops in Minsk
On October 17, in Minsk, the Republic of Belarus, the regular 82nd meeting of the Council of Commanders of the Border Troops took place, chaired by the First Deputy Director - Head of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia, Army General Vladimir Kulishov.
The meeting was attended by delegations of the border agencies of the CIS member states and the SKPV Coordination Service, Honorary Members of the Council of Commanders of the Border Troops, heads of interacting competent CIS bodies and working structures of relevant international organizations, as well as CSTO Acting Secretary General Valery Semerikov.
During the meeting, the situation developing on the external borders of the CIS member states and its development trends were analyzed.
Valery Semerikov in his speech “On joint efforts to maintain a stable environment on the common security space and on the external borders of the CSTO member states” emphasized the situation in the Organization’s area of responsibility, touched on questions of the CSTO measures to strengthen the Tajik-Afghan border, to counter challenges and outgoing threats from the territory of Afghanistan, informed about CSTO initiatives to maintain regional stability and security.
On the sidelines of the 82nd meeting of the SKPV, Valery Semerikov also held working meetings with the heads of the border agencies of the CSTO member states. In particular, issues were discussed regarding the implementation of the draft CSTO Interstate Program for Strengthening Tajik-Afghan Borders.
At a gala reception at the Palace of the Republic for significant contribution to strengthening the border security of the CSTO member states, Valery Semerikov handed the jubilee badge “25th Anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty” to Major General Anatoly Lappo, Chairman of the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus.
