In accordance with the 2026 Action Plan of the Coordinating Council of Heads of the Competent Authorities for Countering Illicit Drug Trafficking of the CSTO Member States, and as part of the Russian Federation's priorities during its 2026 CSTO Chairmanship, the sub-regional counter-narcotics operation “Kanal – Amber Coast” was conducted from June 29 to July 3, 2026. The operation was aimed at disrupting trafficking routes for narcotic drugs, their precursors and analogues, new psychoactive substances, and potent substances into the CSTO area of responsibility, neutralizing international transnational drug trafficking groups, dismantling clandestine drug production facilities, undermining the economic foundations of the drug trade, including the laundering of drug proceeds.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov visited the CSTO Joint Staff 12.01.2023

On January 12 this year, Imangali Tasmagambetov, the Collective Security Treaty Organization Secretary General, who assumed his duties from January 1, 2023, visited the CSTO Joint Staff.

Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, briefed the new head of the Organization on the main directions of activities in the development of the collective security system with regard to the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces), on improving the organization of joint operational and combat training activities, joint training of military personnel and specialists for the armed forces of CSTO member states, and on multilateral military and technical cooperation.

The Secretary General was told about the work of the structural subdivisions of the CSTO, was shown the decision-making hall of the CSTO Crisis Response Center, was introduced to the historical exposition of the lecture and exhibition hall located in the International Military Center.

At the end of the working visit, the CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov noted that life dictated certain challenges and we had to solve them together. "The issue of security in our regions certainly rests on the shoulders of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, which means it rests on our shoulders. Thank you very much for your service, we will work together," Imangali Tasmagambetov said.
