At a session in St. Petersburg, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of the Republic of Belarus and Russia adopted a statement today in connection with the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War, BELTA news agency reported from the press service of the meeting.
- In the statement, the deputies of the Parliamentary Assembly reflect their common attitude to the events of the Great Patriotic War, note the contribution to the defeat of the enemy of all the republics of the Soviet Union, condemn the attempts to glorify Nazism, the Western world’s ideology unacceptable to Belarusians and Russians, distorting the causes, course and results of the war, emphasized in the press service. - Parliamentarians express concern over the pronounced desire of some countries to form a unipolar world and violate the architecture of international security.
By universal consent of the deputies, the actions of some countries to prosecute war veterans who fought in the ranks of the Red Army are unacceptable.
- In this regard, there is a need not only to care for the welfare of veterans by measures of social and legal protection, but also to preserve the historical truth and memory of the heroes, the press service said. - To do this, it is proposed to take concrete actions to educate the new generation of respect for the history of the Motherland, as well as expand measures of targeted support to veterans and legislatively ensure that the historical truth is not eroded. Union parliamentarians will use the stands of international parliamentary organizations to uphold the international security system that has developed since the Great Victory.
According to the decision of the session, the full text of the statement will be published in the leading media of the Republic of Belarus and Russia.
