On September 29–30, 2026, the 6th International Conference of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation on the spread of extremist ideology was held in Moscow. The CSTO delegation, comprising Umar Umarzoda, Head of the Department for Countering Challenges and Threats, and Igor Demchenko, Adviser to the Department, took part in the conference.
In the Russian Federation, at the Chebarkulsky training range, reconnaissance groups have begun practicing practical actions in designated areas as part of the CSTO special exercise with reconnaissance forces and assets “Search-2026”.
Today, a ceremony was held at the Chebarkulsky training range in the Russian Federation to open the command-and-staff exercise with the Collective Operational Reaction Forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization “Interaction-2026” and the special exercises “Search-2026” and “Echelon-2026”.
Statement by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CSTO member states on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the granting of observer status to the CSTO at the United Nations General Assembly
03.12.2024We, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CSTO member states, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of resolution 59/50 of December 2, 2004, granting observer status to the Collective Security Treaty Organization, note with satisfaction the development of effective partnership relations between the two organizations.
We reaffirm the commitment of the CSTO member states to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations in their entirety and interrelation.
We note that cooperation between the UN and the CSTO is developed in accordance with Chapter VIII of the UN Charter, the UN General Assembly resolution “Cooperation between the United Nations and the Collective Security Treaty Organization,” and the Joint Declaration on Cooperation between the UN Secretariat and the CSTO Secretariat of March 18, 2010, in areas such as peacekeeping, countering terrorism and transnational organized crime, and combating the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors.
We declare our commitment to pursuing common goals of ensuring peace and regional security, preventing and resolving conflicts, and countering challenges and threats, including international terrorism, illicit trafficking in drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, and weapons, transnational organized crime and illegal migration, as well as combating natural and man-made disasters.
We emphasize the importance of the CSTO's effective participation in global peacekeeping efforts and our commitment to developing practical cooperation between the CSTO and the UN on peacekeeping issues.
We reaffirm our commitment to further deepening the Organization's cooperation with relevant UN bodies on the basis of the respective memoranda and protocols concluded with the Executive Directorate of the UN Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee, the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the UN Department of Peace Operations, and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
We highly value the outcome of the UN Security Council debate held in New York on July 19, 2024, on “Cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations in maintaining international peace and security: the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.”
We support holding regular consultations between the UN Secretary-General and the CSTO Secretary General.
We declare our readiness to further develop the CSTO's capabilities and strengthen its coordination and cooperation with the UN in areas of mutual interest, complementing the efforts of the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security.
