On December 4, at the invitation of the Iranian side, a delegation from the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, led by Chief of the Joint Staff Colonel General Andrei Serdyukov, took part in the final stage of joint anti-terrorism trainings conducted by the competent authorities of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization “Sahand-Anti-Terror 2025” in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov took part in the “BRICS+ 2025 Anti-Terrorism Conference: National and Regional Counter-Terrorism Strategies in the Context of Emerging Challenges and Security Threats”, held in Moscow.
On 27-30 May, in the city of St. Petersburg, on the basis of the Mikhailovsky Military Artillery Academy, a training and methodological meeting was held with the heads of the CSTO basic training and research organizations to coordinate joint training of military personnel and scientific work.
The event was attended by heads of basic training and research organizations of military universities of the Russian Federation, representatives of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus, a group of officers of the CSTO Joint Staff headed by Lieutenant General Ruslan Shpekbayev, representatives of the CSTO Secretariat and invited persons.
The particular importance of joint training in the Organization's format was emphasized in a video message to the event participants by Colonel General Andrei Serdyukov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, in which he noted in particular: “The challenges of modernity require us to keep up with the times, to work ahead of the curve and to carry out targeted work to train highly qualified military personnel for the CSTO Collective Forces and to introduce best practices in the educational process”.
The Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff also noted: “The current global and regional military and political situation is tense and particularly dynamic. Negative trends affecting its development are increasing against the background of a fundamental transformation of the existing architecture of the world order. Fundamentally new types of high-tech weapons are emerging, including unmanned systems and robotic systems with artificial intelligence, and cyber security is becoming increasingly important”.
The training and methodological meeting was chaired by Lieutenant General Sergei Bakaneyev, Head of the Mikhailovsky Military Artillery Academy.
In the course of the event, there was a thorough exchange of views on the experience of organizing the training of military personnel and specialists. Proposals for enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation in the area of military training in the CSTO format were discussed.
The event participants prepared a number of forward-looking and conceptual proposals for improving the system of joint training of military personnel for CSTO member states.
Summarizing the results of the event, Lieutenant General Sergei Bakaneyev, Head of the Mikhailovsky Military Artillery Academy, noted the fruitful work of the participants of the training camp and thanked them for effective cooperation in the field of military education.
In Luga, the event participants also visited the training battalion of the Mikhailovsky Military Artillery Academy, where they were familiarized with practical training on military equipment and training facilities.
