Established in November 2006. B. Gryzlov, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, was elected Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly (CSTO PA).
The plenary meetings, meetings of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the CSTO and its Standing Committees, which are held twice a year, examine the Organization’s activities, the situation in the Organization’s area of responsibility, the implementation status of the decisions of the Organization’s CSC sessions and the tasks of their legal support. The meetings discuss issues of the implementation of the Program for the approximation and harmonization of legislation, the practice of ratification of international treaties concluded within the framework of the CSTO, and other issues.
The Information Analytical Legal Center of the PA CSTO and the Expert Advisory Council under the PA CSTO Council created by the working bodies of the PA CSTO Secretariat make a significant contribution to the activities of the CSTO PA.
Members of the PA CSTO PA made several trips to the collective security regions to study the military-political situation. Parliamentarians visited the Central Asian, Eastern European and Caucasus regions of collective security.
Another of the activities of the parliamentarians of the CSTO member states is the coordination of positions on issues submitted for discussion by the OSCE PA, the texts of the general resolutions of the CSTO member states.
