The meeting was held in the city of Moscow under the chairmanship of Viktor Zinoviev, Secretary of the CSTO Interstate Commission on Military-Economic Cooperation (ICMEC, Commission).

The Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov took part in the XIII Meeting of the Heads of National Anti-Terrorism Centers of the CIS Member States 18.02.2020

On February 18, 2020, the Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov took part in the XIII Meeting of Heads (Heads of Staff) of the National Anti-Terrorism Centers of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States held in Moscow. The meeting addressed a wide range of issues of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and extremism, factors affecting the security of states at the present stage, a forecast for the development of the situation in the short term, and priority areas for cooperation in the anti-terrorism sphere.

Addressing the meeting participants, Valery Semerikov assessed the level of terrorist threats in the CSTO area of ​​responsibility, informed about the measures taken by the Organization to neutralize them as part of the relevant Decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council in October (2016). The CSTO Deputy Secretary General said that based on the assessment of terrorist threats emanating from foreign terrorist fighters, as well as the spread of terrorist ideology via the Internet, special attention should be paid to the category of CSTO citizens returning from combat zones, focusing on their rehabilitation. In addition, Mr.Semerikov pointed out, the implementation of preventive measures among convicted members of banned terrorist organizations in order to prevent the recruitment of new members of terrorist organizations in places of serving their sentences is of particular relevance.

The CSTO Deputy Secretary General emphasized the need to step up collective international efforts to counter terrorism and spread terrorist ideology based on the implementation of the UN Security Council anti-terrorism resolutions and the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. At the same time, he praised the CSTO's regional cooperation with the CIS ATC, carried out on the basis of the 2011 Memorandum and the 2018 Tripartite Memorandum between the CIS ATC, SCO RATS and the CSTO Secretariat, within which a permanent expert group was created and operates.
