Greeting by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov to the organizers and participants of the “Valdai” International Discussion Club conference "Collective Security in a New Era: the CSTO Experience and Prospects” 10.02.2022

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Website, 09-02-2022 I am pleased to welcome the organizers and participants of the “Valdai” International Discussion Club conference "Collective Security in a New Era: the CSTO Experience and Prospects". This year marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Collective Security Treaty and the 20th anniversary of the multifunctional Organization created on its basis. I note with satisfaction that for the past years the CSTO has established itself as an important factor of regional and international security in general. A vivid confirmation of its maturity and high efficiency is the coordinated actions of the Peacekeeping Forces in providing assistance to the Republic of Kazakhstan in stabilizing the internal political situation. In this context, the relevance of today's conference acquires particular significance. You will have not only to analyze the accumulated experience of interaction within the Organization, but also to consider prospects for strengthening cooperation of the member States in the face of multiplying challenges and threats. I hope that the discussions will be constructive and enable us to elaborate practical recommendations in the interests of ensuring peaceful and stable development of all states and peoples in Eurasia. I wish you fruitful work and all the best.
