In the face of world challenges, increasing the CSTO's contribution to counteracting the distortion of the historical truth about the World War II is of particular importance, Stanislav Zas believes.

YEREVAN, May 8 - Sputnik. Secretary General of the Organization Stanislav Zas said in his greeting speech on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War that the joint actions of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states would allow blocking ominous trends in the international situation.

He noted that together we could strengthen common security, make a weighty contribution to maintaining peace and strengthening international security.

Zas noticed that this year the celebration of the Victory Day took place in an environment where humanity was facing a coronavirus pandemic and intensifying attempts to undermine the foundations of the world order that was laid down 75 years ago by the victorious states to rid future generations of the scourge of war.

“Under these conditions, increasing CSTO’s contribution to countering the distortion of the historical truth about the Second World War and countering to subrogation of international rights comes to the sharp focus” – the Organization’s Secretary General said.

According to Zas, the Victory Day is a great holiday, common to all, a symbol of the unity of peoples before the threat of the fascism, their whole-hearted deed on the battlefields and selfless labor in the home front.

“We are proud of our fathers and grandfathers, who got rid the world of Nazism, and cherish the memory of their feat. We remember those who met their demise in battles, and those who helped to reach the Great Victory in the home front with their heroic labor,” he emphasized.

The CSTO is a regional international organization. According to the charter, activities of the organization are "strengthening peace, international and regional security and stability, collective defense of the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of member states." At the same time, countries give priority to achieving political goals rather than military means. The organization includes the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan.
